Shotts based charity, Central Scotland Forest Trust (CSFT) has become the first Scottish company to achieve IIP Champion status.

Simon Rennie, Chief Executive of CSFT, said: "CSFT is delighted to be the first Scottish Organisation ever to be recognised with this award from Investors in People. Only a handful of companies in the UK receive this prestigious award, so the recognition is not just a cause for celebration for CSFT but for Scotland too."

"CSFT is a small organisation which likes to think big and we are delighted to receive this accolade as recognition of our innovation in the workplacer and continued commitment to developing our people."

"CSFT currently employs 33 members of staff and we have held Investors in People status for 10 years. This award recognises that we take both staff development and our responsibilities as employers very seriously. This we do, and will continue to do, to the very best of our ability and resources."

Peter Russian, Chief Executive of Investors in People Scotland, said: "We are absolutely delighted that Central Scotland Forest Trust has become the first Investors in People Champion in Scotland. This award recognises and rewards a team who have been at the forefront of innovative and effective leadership and management in Scotland and who not only reaped the benefits from its approach but shared its practice and experience with others. We hope that this award inspires many other organisations to really focus on the effectiveness of their own approach and to share their experiences and ideas with others."

In total only 9 organisations across the UK were awarded Champions status in the programmes 2007 intake. The Investors in People Champions programme recognises employers that have boosted the productivity of their organisation through the way they manage and develop their employees. Each has demonstrated consistent commitment to people development as a way of delivering its organisation's goals.

The Champions will work with Investors in People UK to help other employers by sharing their experience and success in the area of people development. The best practice sharing activities will include mentoring and site visits to Champion organisations.

David Lammy, Parliamentary Under-Secretary of State for Skills, commented:

"If we want our economy to compare with the best in the world, we need skills that compare with the best in the world. The UK's employers play a crucial role in delivering this vision, ensuring their employees are motivated, equipped with the right skills and able to fulfil their potential."

"The Investors in People Champions have demonstrated real commitment to the development of their people and clearly recognise the link between properly skilled employees and benefits to their bottom-line and overall organisational performance. I congratulate them on their achievements."
