06/10/2006 : Local Authority Directorate receives Investors in People Accolade

The Planning and Environment Services Directorate at Dumfries and Galloway Council, has achieved Investors in People status and are being presented with the prestigious business accolade by Bernard Cruickshanks of Investors in People Scotland, who will hand over the plaque to the Chairman and the Corporate Director of Planning and Environment Services.

The Directorate, which has over 300 staff has been working towards attainment of the revised Investors in People Standard, to help improve levels of productivity, maintain high quality levels of good working practice, and demonstrate commitment to its staff and customers.

Investors in People is a national, externally assessed, quality standard that sets a benchmark for managing and developing people, to help organisations improve its performance through its employees.

The revised Investors in People Standard has seen this benchmark raised to new levels, becoming even more challenging to achieve, but of even greater benefit to organisations.

Peter Russian, chief executive of Investors in People Scotland, said:

“Planning and Environment Services has demonstrated a fundamental belief and commitment to its employees.

“To attain the Investors in People Standard companies have to follow our 10-point guide. In essence this is good practice, but in reality it’s one of the hardest things to get right, but the simple fact is that if organisations follow the plan by developing good business strategies, taking action to improve performance, and constantly evaluating how they are working, they will become a better organisation.”
